Time flies
March 9, 2008 on 4:36 pm | In Life, Motivation |I was exchanging mails with an ex-school mate recently and one of the mails had a picture of her baby boy taken about a year ago. She exclaimed, “how time flies!” obviously referring to the remarkable growth in the boy since the time the picture was taken. In my reply, i suddenly found myself waxing lyrical and that’s the inspiration for this post.
“Time flies when you are having fun” is a popular saying innit, usually said because of the way time seems to be so much shorter and nearly not enough when you are engaged in a pleasurable activity. For example, when am going from one blog to the other or on facebook, i tend to loose track of time.
The truth is that time “flies” whether you are having fun or not, yea.
Time “flies” doesnt it? referring to fast paced movement as opposed to slow snail “speed” crawl.
The events of the time-period referred to when such a statement is made usually determines the mood or tone with which it is said. What i’m trying to imply is that, if the person in question reviews a particular period of time, and goes ahead to compare his or her current state to his or her initial plan or his or her capacity for improvement or achievement; and observes a negative trend, time flies will be said regretfully even if you spent all that time having fun..))
Conversely, you would exclaim “time flies!” in a more positive tone, if you felt fulfilled and had a sense of achievement.
Another thing that strikes me is that we seem to ignore the fact that one year, for example didnt just happen in a flash, it arrived in seconds, 60 of which made a minute, 60 of which made an hour, 24 of which made a day, then weeks, months and BAM! One year and two, three etc.
It figures then that in the final analysis, the things we do or don’t do in those teeny weeny seconds, minutes, hours etc go a very long way in determining the outcomes we eventually see.
Do you despise seconds…oh you don’t, right? But do you ever feel like the next minute or so isn’t enough for you to conclude that item on your to-do list, so let’s postpone it? Does that sound like you? No again?
Have you ever pondered that it’ll be nice to know how many time-dollars you had to spend on this side of the divide? Permit me to remind you that Time is a finite resource. We usually say we dont have time, right? Truth is, you have time but only so much of it and bad enough, you dont even know how much you got, oh ok, you have any idea.
What would you do differently in your life now, assuming you were given a clue as to how many more years you have? Selah…
If you knew….this gist is far from over, stay tuned
